5 for 5 Blog Hop Event: Halloween - Day 1

I'm happy to say that the 5 for 5 Gang is back with another fun Blog Event. Who is the 5 for 5 gang you ask? Well, we are 5 crafty friends getting together and creating 5 Holiday themed projects for 5 consecutive days. Our last Blog Event was Easter 2015, so we are so excited to be back!! We have a blast creating projects for you and inspiring you to create along with us!! We use whatever we have in our stash and just have fun!
Welcome to Day 1 of our latest 5 for 5 Blog Hop Event. The event runs from October 12th (today) until October 16th and is Halloween inspired!!
Each day we will base our projects on a theme. Today's theme is PAINT. I created two ATC's. I haven't made ATC's in awhile and forgot how fun they are!! Here's my first ATC ...
I dug up some ATC die cuts from my stash and brushed the edges with Distress Paint - Picket Fence. I added some paint to the edges of the sentiment from Tim Holtz Small Talk - Occasions and then splattered the Picket Fence paint on the ATC once I was done layering all the die cut pieces. The textured background paper is from DCWV.
My second ATC in made from old and new supplies. The papers are from an older 6x6 Halloween paper pad from Marah Johnson and I die cut some circles using Lawn Fawn Stitched Circle and Scalloped Circle Stackables Dies. The new products are Tim Holtz Idea-ology Wicked Alpha Parts and Curiosities Remnant Rubs.
I splattered Distress Paint - Black Soot onto the card once I was done. I love the cheesecloth under the spider to look like her web!! I added some stickles to little miss spider!
Please hop on over and check out today's projects for each of the designers! They all did a great job and hopefully you will be inspired to make a card, tag, ATC or whatever you desire to celebrate Halloween!!

August Mixed Media Monthly Challenge is LIVE!!

Hello bloggers! It's my turn to host the third challenge this month on the Mixed Media Monthly Challenge blog! Our theme is stencils and pastes.

Examples of paste include modeling paste, texture paste, embossing paste, super heavy gesso, gel mediums - basically any thick medium that will add dimension and texture to a project once applied through a favorite stencil. I chose light modeling paste.
I started with a 6x6 deep edge canvas and scraped modeling paste through a stencil with a palette knife.

I then added some paints from the Dina Wakley Media line. Dina's new heavy body acrylic paints are lovely to work with as well as her new brushes. I used Sky and White paints, keeping the shading lighter in the center and watering them down when needed.

I added some painted circles, lines and splotches to a few areas on the canvas to add color.

My focal point is a little birdie from Dina's Scribbly Birds stamp collection. I stamped the birdie on watercolor paper and painted  her with Magenta, Lemon, Tangerine and White paint. She's perched on a piece of DCWV corrugated cardboard. I splattered Magenta paint onto the background before I attached the perched birdie! Here's the final project ...

Our very generous sponsor this month is the Eclectic Paperie!!

They have kindly donated a $25.00 gift certificate to a lucky random winner, so grab your stencils and pastes and join us for a chance to win! Thanks for stopping by and I'd love to hear from you!

Tuesday, July 1

Hello July!!

Hey - it's July! Summer has blossomed ... school is out, vacations have started, holiday parties are being planned and it's time for a brand new challenge! I'm beyond excited about the great response we received to our first Mixed Media Monthly Challenge!! We had some AMAZING entries in our Spray Inks and Mists challenge, almost 60 total, and it's going to be tough to pick some winners! Thanks to everyone who participated!
July's Challenge is ... Around the House. This means using any household items to apply paint or other mixed media products.

I decided to create a canvas for this challenge. I wanted to dive into using
Dina Wakley's new paints, brushes and stamps. Dina's paints are heavy body paints and you can see all the GORGEOUS colors on the Ranger Products Page. Here's how I used some items from Around the House. I applied gesso to my canvas using an old credit card ...

I painted the background with "Sky" paint. Before it was dry, I placed the Speckles Layering Stencil by Tim Holtz over the canvas and rubbed off some paint by using a baby wipe over the stencil.

I wanted to use Dina's "Face in the Crowd" Media Stamp set for my canvas. One of the faces fit perfectly on my canvas which is 4 x 4 inches. If you don't have an acrylic block handy, you can place your cling stamp on a CD case and it works just fine ...

After coloring in the face with Dina's paints I cut her out, glued her to the canvas and started adding some painterly touches.

I love circles on my canvases and art journal pages and I found a cap from a water bottle, dipped it in gesso and added some circles ...

After I added some "Night" paint to the edges, I took a tissue and blotted some of the dark paint to the sides of the canvas as well as some drips on the upper left corner of the canvas. I also added some glass beads for more texture. I mixed glass beads and gesso and applied it to her hair with bubble wrap. Here's the final result ...

So, look around the house and see what you can find to apply paint or other mixed media products! Join us in our fun challenge and you could win a fabulous prize from our July sponsor DCWV!!!

Thanks for stopping by - please leave me any feedback - I'd love to hear from you! Happy July to everyone!!!
