5 for 5 Blog Event: Valentine's | Day 5

Welcome to day 5 of our 5 for 5 Blog Event. For the past 5 days our 5 designers have created Valentine's Inspired Projects based on a theme. I have enjoyed this week so much and we hope you have as well! I'm already looking forward to the next Holiday Blog Event! Have you been inspired to create any Valentine's projects - if so leave me a comment with a link to your project - I'd LOVE to see what you have created! Todays theme is "Collage" and for my final project I started with a 4 x 4 canvas. I added some cheesecloth, punchenella, microbeads, modeling paste and a LOVE chipboard piece that I used as a focal point. I collaged all these elements onto my canvas and covered the whole canvas with gesso. I then added various colors of spray inks in Valentine's colors. I lost the focal point a bit so I applied UTEE (Ultra Thick Embossing Enamel) and heated it. This created a waxy finish and the focal point finally popped ...

Here's another view - you can see the waxy shine on the love chipboard...

and here's a close-up of the beads ...

I added some black splatters to give the piece some pop!
Some of us are offering prizes during this blog event. Here's a peek at my Valentine's giveaway. To qualify for this fun prize, please be sure to comment on each of my 5 for 5 posts on my blog. I will randomly chose a winner and announce on Monday February 2, 2015!

5 for 5 Blog Event: Valentine's | Day 4

Welcome to Day 4 of our 5 for 5 Blog Event. Each day for 5 days our 5 Designers will post one Valentine's Inspired Project based on a theme. The theme for today is "Glitter". I created a fun card using some Stampin' Up! products. I fell in love with this adorable "Hey, Valentine" clear stamp set and it allowed me to practice more with my Blendabilities. I stamped the image on Neenah Solar White cardstock with Tuxedo Black Memento Ink and cut it into a banner shape. I colored the cute fish with Blendabilities. I used Lawn Fawn's Stitched Rectangle Stackable Die to cut a piece of paper from the "Let's Polka" 6x6 paper pad. I added a doily to the mix and here's my card ...

I used a Wink of Stella Brush Pen to add glitter to the heart and the bubbles ...

We have only one more day to share some fun Valentine's inspired projects with you. Tomorrow I will share my giveaway and all you need to do is comment on all 5 days of our blog event to qualify. I will chose a random winner and make the announcement on Monday February 2, 2015. Thanks for stopping by and I will see you tomorrow!! Please visit the designers blogs below for even more inspiration!

5 for 5 Blog Event: Valentine's | Day 3

Welcome to Day 3 of our 5 for 5 Blog Event.
Each day for 5 days our 5 Designers will post one Valentine's Inspired Project based on a theme. Some of us will be offering prizes - MYSELF INCLUDED - stay tuned!! The theme for today is "Arrows". I created another card today - I am fairly new to card making but I really enjoy making them! For this card I continued to use My Mind's Eye "Cupid's Arrow" papers. I used Lawn Fawn's Stitched Rectangle Stackables to create several layers for my card. I love the stitched look and the stackable dies are fun and easy to use! Here's a close up of the stitched look ...

And here's my card...

The smallest layer is backed with fun foam for dimension - a great tip I picked up from
Jennifer McGuire. Fun foam is very inexpensive and the same thickness as foam tape. It's great for a solid backing of an element or photo and is more cost effective. I still use foam tape ALOT, but this is a great supplement to make your foam tape last much longer! I punched out three hearts, one out of red glitter paper and added them to the center of the card. A simple sentiment was the perfect final touch for this card!

Thanks again for stopping by and leaving your lovely comments. Please check the designers blogs below and leave some love! I will have a fun giveaway that's Valentine's Day related. Simply leave a comment on my blog for each 5 days and I will randomly choose a winner!! Hopefully we are inspiring you to create some Valentine's projects! See you tomorrow!!

5 for 5 Blog Event: Valentine's | Day 2

Welcome to Day 2 of our 5 for 5 Blog Event. Each day for 5 days our 5 Designers will post one Valentine's Inspired Project based on a theme. The theme for today is "Pink and Orange". I decided drag out my awesome Stampotique stamps and create a colorful mixed media tag. The tag base started as a mop up page from some older art journal pages that I was working on. Any stencils with paint or spray inks on them get wiped off onto another clean page which then starts another background! I added some
Dina Wakley paint, gesso and black paint to complete the background. I then stamped my Stampotique image onto Neenah Solar White cardstock with Tuxedo Black Memento Ink. I colored this little lovely with Stampin' Up!'s Blendabilities! Blendabilities are alcohol based markers that allow for blending several shades of the same color.

Here's a close-up of the coloring ...

When using a "figure" image, it helps to have the image standing on something so it doesn't look like it's floating. I added some lines with black paint and some glitter hearts ...

I forgot how much I love these stamps!!! Thanks for stopping by and please be sure to check out the blogs below for more Valentines inspiration!! See you tomorrow for more 5 for 5!!

5 for 5 Blog Event: Valentine's | Day 1

Hello Everyone! Hope you are all doing well and had a great weekend. I hunkered down and finished some projects - deadlines can be quite motivating! It was a perfect weekend for crafting since we had a mild snow/rain storm on Saturday - mild for New England that is! We have been lucky so far this winter - however that is due to change today and into Tuesday ... we're always on our toes!!
I have a new crafty endeavor I'm very excited about and it starts today! I want to welcome you to a new Blog Event  - "5 for 5"! A few designers, 5 to be exact, will create Holiday Inspired projects for, you guessed it, 5 days in a row! Each day our 5 Designers will post one Holiday Inspired Project based on a theme. Some of us are offering prizes, so be sure to visit all the blogs listed below and leave a comment.
So, without further ado, Welcome to Day 1 of our 5 for 5 Blog Event! This month's event runs from January 26th (today) until January 30th and is based on Valentine's Day.

Today our theme is "Hearts". I created a simple square card (4.5 x 4.5) by layering some older papers from My Mind's Eye "Cupid's Arrow" collection. I used the heart on the back of the "Confetti Hearts Foiled Paper" as the focus of the card.

I embossed the sentiment "Be Mine, Valentine" with gold embossing powder.

To add more gold I spattered some Heidi Swapp Color Shine in Gold onto the card - masking off the heart to keep the splatters off of it.
For a final touch, I added some fun Martha Stewart Iridescent Heart Glitter from a set I picked up at Michael's with a coupon.

This card was very easy to put together and perfect for today's theme.
Please visit the 5 for 5 Designers, check out their cute projects and leave them some LOVE!!

Thanks for stopping by today and be sure to stop by tomorrow for a new Valentine's Inspired themed project.

Hello Bloggers! Happy Sunday to everyone!

Thanks to Kristine Davidson for ALL her hard work making this site a huge success!!! I have enjoyed my term with this great team and I hope to see it return!!! I used my latest Noel Mignon January Kit "Hey Girl" to create my layout.  Here's my page ...

... and here's Sketch 286 ...

For the bottom of the sketch I chose to layer strips of the same patterned paper in different widths and lengths, including popping several up for added dimension.

I added some days of the week stickers throughout the layers to play along with the subject - coffee!
As a reminder, our sponsor for this month is SpiegelMom Scraps. Jody is offering a $25.00 off a purchase of $35.00 or more to her shop. A Return to Project Life

Hello Everyone! Hope you are all doing well. Like lots of you, we are in the midst of ARTIC weather here in New England. It's expected but still shocking after a moderately mild winter so far. All my heavy duty winter gear is out and greatly needed to walk my dog. Yesterday was my regular day off and I only ventured outside for brief dog walks - business only if you catch my drift! In this kind of weather I'm sooooo very thankful for my auto car starter - it's a blessing. I hate to rush life, but I'm ready for the Spring!
Over the weekend I returned to Project Life 2014. I was so good about keeping up with my PL until the end of July last year. Along came other wonderful commitments and PL took a back seat. I completed week 31 | 2014 using some leftover papers and embellishment from Teresa Collins "Nine & Co." I love how this page came out, especially the folder type cards. I used Project Life Page Design A. Here's the whole page ...

Here's the title card - this is one of the file folders that coordinate with the collection. I added cardstock and chipboard stickers to dress it up a bit ...

Here's the inside pages of the file folder ...

The next card on the page is also from the file folder set ...

This is a great way to add more journaling, especially personal journaling ...

Here are close-ups of the remaining pages ...

Yes, I was excited about ceiling fans ... LOL!!

My last card - I fixed the typo after photographing ...

It feels great to return to PL and I hope to continue to catch up - I want to complete 2014. Hey, a Crop would be good for that!! Good thing there's one coming up in March!! Crop on the Cape 2015 - here I come!!! Have a great week - see you soon!

Creative Scrappers Sketch 285 | Reveal

Hello Bloggers - Happy Sunday! Hope you all had a great time welcoming in the New Year!! I had a very low key evening but nice just the same!
I wanted to hop on today to share my layout using Creative Scrappers latest sketch - 285. This was a fun sketch - I think I say that every time!! I used Fancy Pants "Oh Deer" collection from my latest Noel Mignon Kit "Cable Knit" but in a winter-themed way. I love when a holiday collection can be used in a non-holiday way! I had a cute photo of Simba in the snow that went perfect with this fun collection. Here's my layout ...

I used vellum over the some of patterned papers to soften the look. I colored the wood veneer snowflakes with Clear Glitter Wink of Stella Brush which adds a nice glittery look. I also added some pretty sequins from the "Oh Deer" collection ...

Here is sketch 285 ...

Happy New Year!! Welcome 2015!

Happy New Year Everyone!

It's a brand new year - a fresh start! It's a time for changes, a renewed attitude and a time to move on! I hesitate to make specific resolutions but I do want to create as much as possible in the time I have and try to be as happy as I can in whatever I do!

It's also time for a new challenge over on the Mixed Media Monthly Challenge Blog.  I'm so thrilled to be staying on for another term with this talented crew! We have had a great response over the past 7 months and we thank each and every one who has participated in our challenges. This month marks our 8th challenge! The challenge is simple - "New to You"!! This can be a new technique, a new product - whatever New means to you!!

For my project I started with a 5x7 burlap canvas. Believe it or not this is my first time creating on burlap. I have several burlap canvases and burlap panels but I haven't used them. I started by applying some gesso on the canvas with a palette knife. I collaged some cheesecloth over the gesso. I then used a stencil and modeling paste to add some texture. Next, I added various ink sprays from Lindy's Stamp Gang. Lindy's Starburst ink sprays are so pretty and have tons of shimmer. I used a variety of colors in blues, yellows and greens. I find that combining colors in the same family adds depth to a project. Here's a list of the colors I chose - all Starburst sprays:
"Grab a Guy Gold", "Wake Me Up Before You Go Gold", "Bells of Ireland Green", "Green with Envy Green", "My Mojito Green", "Shabby Turbine Teal", and "Tibetan Turbine Teal". I have to say, the colors aren't as vibrant on the burlap as on a white canvas, but still so pretty - something NEW I learned! I was liking the result but was then stuck for a focal point. I dug through my stash a found a copper colored metal star I picked up somewhere. I grabbed some Blue Inka Gold, a color I've never used (so NEW to me) and applied it to the star. I rubbed off the excess and it looked so different. Here's the final product ...

I added a Tim Holtz Ideology Word Stick Metal Charm - a perfect match for the star! Here are some additional views of the canvas ...

Our sponsor this month is Butterfly Reflections, Ink.

This is an adorable online shop with lots of mixed media products including Dina Wakely's AWESOME paints! The shop's prices are excellent and the shipping is very reasonable. You can win a $25.00 gift certificate by participating in our challenge! We are looking forward to seeing what you create and what is New to You!!!!
