Simon Says Stamp | Wednesday Challenge: Use Your Favorite Technique or Product

I'm here today to share a mixed media tag I entered into Simon Says Stamp's Wednesday Challenge | Favorite Technique and/or Product. SSS is showcasing Ranger products this week. I just happen to have a TON of products fitting that category!!  My artsy fartsy girls got together this past weekend and on Saturday we made some mixed media tags using one of my favorite techniques "Collaging". I've done several tags with this technique. You can see them HERE and HERE.
There are so many things I love about this technique:
1. I use up stash that has been sitting around for awhile!
 2. The process of creating - I love watching the piece evolve and it's truly different EVERY time!!
3. Creating with mixed media products I haven't used in awhile! It's fun just to play!

First, I applied gesso to a #10 sized manila tag.

The base of the tag is made up of OLD chipboard alpha letters collaged onto the tag with Multi Medium Matte.

Next, I added metal pieces from my stash including some vintage watch parts a coworker scored for me from the Brimfield Fair, a HUGE local fair!!

I then applied Ranger's Texture Paste through Tim Holtz "Mesh" Layering stencil on the blank spaces of my tag.

I love adding beads to my tags for even more texture. I used two different sizes.

Once I'm done adding stuff - trust me it's hard to stop - I then painted gesso over the entire tag, including all the "nooks and crannies",  to uniform the color of all the objects before adding my Distress Ink Sprays.

Next is when the fun really begins - adding color. I used several Distress Spray Stains to add color to my tag. The trick is to allow each color to dry before adding the next so the colors don't mix too much and create mud. I've listed all the supplies below, including the sprays I chose. Here's my tag after some sprays ...

I was  happy with the colors but I wanted the butterfly to stand out more as the focal point. So I added more fossilized amber and broken china and came up with a great patina look!!

I added glossy accents to the butterfly and sprayed the entire tag with Perfect Pearls.

Thanks so much for stopping by and I hope you enjoyed my tutorial on my favorite technique! Be sure to stop by Simon Says Stamp and check out the latest Wednesday Challenge!!

12 Tags of 2015 | June

Howdy Everyone! I'm hopping on today with a finished ON TIME tag for Tim Holtz 12 Tags of 2015!! I had another fun get together with my Artsy Fartsy girls Jenn and Rachel this past Friday. This was much needed after a not so fun day at work - no air conditioning, overbooked schedule, grouchy patients, traffic on the way home ... The girls had an adult beverage and pizza waiting for me - it was so sweet!! Then we created June's 12 Tags of 2015 together.

This tag was so fun and came together quickly. We kept the tag similar to Tim's but changed out the sentiment. Here's my tag ...

The Fresh Brewed Sizzix Bigz Die is so cute!! The die set includes all the coffee cup pieces including the straw!!

June's tag was so fun and easy to create. Thanks for stopping by and I will be back later this week with a fun mixed media tag!!
