Mixed Media Monthly Challenge | May Reveal

Hello Everyone! I finally dusted off my blog and I'm ready to start posting again. I realized I only posted once in April - NOT GOOD. I hope to not let that happen again. I was in a bit of a creative slump, then some minor health issues and worst of all I had to put my beautiful cat Max to sleep due to severe heath problems. I miss him so much - he was quite a character.
Recently I went to my good friend Jenn Shurkus's Loft Art Retreat and had such a good time - it healed my heart to be with creative friends and make a gorgeous nautical themed configurations box. The retreat kicked up my creativity and I feel back to normal-ish.
May first means a brand new reveal over at the Mixed Media Monthly Challenge Blog. I'm so happy to be a part of this talented group. I love creating mixed media projects and using my LARGE mixed media stash of products. It's so freeing to use whatever we want as long as we stay focused on the theme of the month. May's theme is "Flowers".

I decided to create an oversized tag. I used a #10 sized manila tag and I used a TON of Ranger products on my tag. I wanted to use some bright colors and get a lot of texture on my tag. Here's the result ...

I started by inking the entire tag with Cracked Pistachio, one of the gorgeous new colors for 2015, and Tumbled Glass Distress Inks. I edged the tag with Gathered Twigs Distress Ink to give the tag a vintage feel. I then placed Tim Holtz "Bricked" Layering Stencil over the inked tag and scraped Ranger's Texture Paste over the stencil. Once dry, I realigned the stencil over the dried paste and re-inked it. Once done, I flicked water on the tag to give it a splotchy look.

I inked the back of a stamp from Stampers Anonymous "Papillon" stamp set with Tumbled Glass Distress Stain. I then stamped randomly over the background.

I colored three white paper flowers with Cracked Pistachio Distress Spray Stain and Tumbled Glass Distress Stain - I used the stain because I didn't own the Tumbled Glass in Spray Stain yet. Once I was happy with the colors I added UTEE to each flower to make them look like glass. I also stamped out a butterfly from the same stamp set with Fossilized Amber, another new Distress Ink for 2015. I inked the edges of the butterfly with Rusty Hinge Distress Ink.

I added the flowers to a Maya Road Linen Bag and attached that to the tag. I inked some word stickers with Gathered Twigs and added that to my tag as well. For the final touch I colored Crinkled Ribbon with Cracked Pistachio and Tumbled Glass and tied that around the Linen Bag.

I'm a huge fan of blues and greens, and then the pop of extra colour of the butterfly works so well. Lovely inspiration for the challenge.
