Mother's Day Mixed Media Cards

Hello everyone - thanks for stopping by today. I hope you all had a lovely Mother's Day celebration. I know this was a hard day for some and my thoughts are with you. I'm so close to my Mom, more so as I get older, and I can't imagine how hard it is to be missing your Mom. We had family visiting from Virginia as well as local relatives for a great gathering yesterday. LOTS of food and desserts and some adult beverages. It was a nice day and I'm thankful to have a great family.
In honor of Mother's Day I wanted to create some handmade cards for my Mom and her cousin whom I'm close with. I wanted to create something mixed media with lots of dimension. I've created tags with this technique and have loved the results. Here's what I created ...

I started with Tim Holtz Distress Watercolor Cardstock for my card front. This is nice and heavy and able to hold up to lots of wet mixed media products. I then gathered supplies from my stash - OLD paper flowers, cheesecloth, beads, keys, safety pins, charms - whatever I had on hand. I then glued these elements with Matte Medium to the side of my card front ...

I doesn't matter what colors you choose. I then used Tim Holtz "Mesh" Layering Stencil and scraped Ranger's Texture Paste through the stencil onto the white space of the card. Once dry, the entire card gets a coat of gesso.

Next, the fun begins. I chose a variety of Spray Mists and painted the mists onto the card. I added water so they would blend and just had fun. I have linked ALL the products I've used below and recommend all of these products. I didn't include what I had in my stash, but these are items that are probably in your stash as well. I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE Heidi Swapp's Color Shine - especially the gold!! The shimmer it adds is stunning ...

I typed out the sentiment on my vintage typewriter and inked the edges with Distress Inks "Fossilized Amber" and Salty Ocean". Both distress inks were a perfect match for the sprays - love when that happens!!! This is such a fun and freeing technique, I encourage you to try it. It works great on tags, canvases and cards.
Thanks for stopping by and be sure to check out the supply list below. Feel free to email me with any questions! I appreciate your comments as well.
I will return this week with a fun vacation mini album - instagram size!!
